3 cities, 3 relevant partners, 6 costume designers: these are the numbers of the 3 super events organized by The Dark Candy, protagonists of which were big costume designers.
We’ve organized 3 memorable events, 3 amazing ”meet the public” where people, journalists, students an movie lovers got the chance to meet big costume designers. And we did it in partnership with 3 relevant partners.
Event 1: In Milan, costume designer Sanja Hays (Spiderman No Way Home, Captain Marvel, Star Trek Beyond, Fast & Furious) talked about the new female superheroes of Hollywood and about her amazing job as costume designer, in an exclusive talk moderated by The Dark Candy’s Sakis Lalas and Valentina De Giorgi.
The talk was organized in partnership with Arrigo Costumi, an historical costume house where the art of making costumes has been handed down over three generations.
Event 2: We recreate an old Hollywood (or rather, new Hollywood) atmosphere in Thessaloniki. In the beautiful setting of the cinema-theater Olympion, we had a night dedicated to legendary costume designer Anthea Sylbert (Shampoo, King Kong, Rosemary’s Baby, twice Oscar nominated for Chinatown and Julia): a special screening of the movie Rosemary’s Baby, followed by a Q&A moderated by The Dark Candy’s Sakis Lalas and Valentina De Giorgi, where Sylbert herself talked about the costumes she designed for the movie and about her collaboration and friendship with director Roman Polanski.
The event was organized in partnership with the Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
Event 3: Lastly, we organized in Rome, exclusively for the journalists of the Foreign Press Association, a unique event, strengthening our reputation as pioneers in our field: a panel on costume design and the impact that costumes make on our society, fashion and culture.
Protagonists of this panel, moderated by The Dark Candy’s Sakis Lalas, were legendary costume designer Professor Deborah Nadoolman Landis (The Blues Brothers, Indiana Jones Riders of the Lost Ark, Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Oscar nomination for Coming to America), costume designer and A.S.C. President Carlo Poggioli (The Young Pope, The New Pope, Loro, Divergent, Oscar nomination for Cold Mountain) and the Italian costume designers Daniela Ciancio (The Great Beauty, il Divo, Mars TV series, The Exception & The Face of an Angel) and Eva Coen (tv series Mafia Only Kills in Summer).
The panel was held in Rome (Italy), in the headquarters of the Foreign Press Association.
