Italian costume designers got so many Oscars – Milena Canonero alone got four – and the historical costume houses in Rome as Tirelli, Peruzzi and Pieroni are renowned worldwide for creating not just costumes, but real works of art.
Some of which can be admired today at Cinecittà in Rome, in the newly enriched exhibition Cinecittà Shows Off: 20 costumes from acclaimed movies of the Italian and International cinema, designed by legendary costume designers as Danilo Donati, Piero Gherardi, Piero Tosi, Irene Sharaff and Vittorio Nino Novarese.
The exhibition has been curated for A.S.C. (the Italian Association of Costume and Production Designers) by the costume designer Anna Lombardi, two-times nominated at the David di Donatello awards, who has worked in big Hollywood productions alongside Sandy Powell, Alexandra Byrne, Daniel Orlandi, Carlo Poggioli, Janty Yates.
In this video Anna Lombardi tours us around the two locations of the Cinecittà Shows off exhibition: “Why Cinecittà?” (1937 – 1943) in the Fellini Building and “Shooting in Cinecittà” (1943 – 1990) in the Presidential Building.

Tanti sono i premi Oscar presi dai costumisti italiani – solo Milena Canonero ne ha ricevuti quattro – e le sartorie storiche come Tirelli, Peruzzi, Pieroni sono famose in tutto il mondo per creare non semplicemente costumi, ma vere e proprie opere d’arte.
Alcune delle quali oggi si possono ammirare a Cinecittà, nella mostra Cinecittà si mostra, una selezione di costumi ampliata e arricchita: 20 abiti, provenienti da famose pellicole del cinema italiano e internazionale, disegnati da importanti costumisti come Danilo Donati, Piero Gherardi, Piero Tosi, Irene Sharaff e Vittorio Nino Novarese.
La mostra è stata curata per A.S.C. (Associazione Italiana Arredatori, Costumisti e Scenografi) dalla costumista Anna Lombardi, nominata due volte ai David di Donatello, che ha lavorato in grosse produzioni hollywoodiane al fianco di Sandy Powell, Alexandra Byrne, Daniel Orlandi, Carlo Poggioli, Janty Yates.
Ed è proprio Anna Lombardi a farci da guida nelle due esposizioni di Cinecittà si Mostra: “Perché Cinecittà (1937 – 1943)” e “Girando a Cinecittà (1943 – 1990)”, ospitate nella Palazzina Fellini e nella Palazzina Presidenziale dei famosi studios di Roma.
